Loosely defined, stress in human beings is our response to the pressures and demands around us, and it triggers a cascade of microscopic inflammation that can show up in almost any part of the body, compromising efficient functioning and our sense of wellbeing. One of the trickiest aspects of stress is figuring out what is true stress and what is really more our reaction to it. Think of it as external vs. internal. Externally, the world comes at us hard and fast everyday: Family, work, deadlines, headlines, traffic…all those aspects of daily life put stress on us. What is telling is how our minds and bodies respond, our internal processing of these stressors.
