Imagine if everyone had the job they dreamed of as a kid.

We believe every young adult can find a path that leads to a life and career of fulfillment.

A Path in the Woods Foundation

A Path in The Woods Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit, charitable organization created in 2009 in memory and in honor of the spirit and ideas of Daniel McCabe of Wellesley, Massachusetts. The organization is dedicated to opening new doors of opportunity and exploration for the young people in our community and beyond who are searching for their own path in life and need assistance—financial or otherwise—in beginning their journey.

For every generation born in America, we have coined a name that distinguishes them from the other before it, like the Baby Boomers born after World War II and the Gen Y and Gen X and Millennial generations who came after, sometimes describing a generation trying to find its way.

A Path in the Woods Charity Foundation was started by a group of Baby Boomers who came together after one of us lost a son who had not yet found his way through the confusion and complexities of young adulthood while struggling with an unidentified mental health condition. We asked the question: what if when our young adults find themselves unable to cope with life complexities and feel lost, how can we provide them with help to find a path through the darkened forest that seems to be closing in on them? This is our Non-Profits mission.

A Path in the Woods Charity Foundation honors the memory of Dan McCabe, who left us too soon as he searched for his own path from within a sanctuary he created with his friends, literally in a hollow of woods behind Wellesley High School. For some, when their peers head off to college, they can feel as though they have few other options beyond marching to the same drumbeat as their college-bound friends, or distancing themselves from the community they perceive has devalued them.

Our Non-Profits Charity are focused on opening alternative paths to a meaningful future for young adults through internships and work-study programs that honor every individual and the path of their choosing. Through the generosity of our community leaders, neighbors, and friends, we are helping to build a more supportive culture that values every asperation, honors every dream, and helps to build the paths of opportunity for each individual.

The Wellesley business community has a long  history of hiring high-school students to work after school part-time jobs, that many times lead to life-time job opportunities. This custom continues today in less noticeable ways, and in part, inspired us to help sustain that culture into the future.

Help us build that future be becoming a mentor or providing that opportunity in your company for the youth of our communities who are seeking their own path and a meaningful future with learned skills that match their talents. Or donate today with a grant that we can match to a local non-profit employer who will mentor our kids and help them build that future.

Today’s kids are tomorrow’s business and community leaders.
